The archers of Reagan Middle School weren’t in Rio, but they brought the gold home to Prince William County with a win at the NASP/IBO 3D Outdoor World Tournament. The Reagan archers are World Champions for the second year in a row.
During the weekend of Aug. 13, the team traveled to Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania to compete against other NASP schools, while professional archers gathered from across the globe for their own IBO World Championship.
Reagan entered the tournament with high expectations after finishing 5th in both the 3D National Tournament in May and the 3D Indoor World Tournament in June. Eloise Breyfogle and Hannah Morehead finished second and third in the Middle School girls’ division and Nick Miller finished 5th for the Middle School boys.
The outdoor tournament was also the third leg to what is known as the 3 Star Challenge (Nationals and Indoor Worlds are the first two). Scores are combined from all three tournaments to determine an overall 3 Star Champion.
Reagan took second place, falling short by 1 point (4174 to 4175). Reagan outshot Crooksville Intermediate School of Ohio by 28 points at the outdoor tournament, but needed to better them by 30 points.
Reagan won the 3D World Indoor, Outdoor, and 3 Star Challenge in 2015 and are proud to be World Champions once again.
Battlefield High School also competed and finished 9th in the high school division.
Both teams are coached by Jonathan Bukva, Physical Education and Athletic Director at Reagan Middle School.
