Run the Farm 5K 2016 set for June 4
The Run the Farm 2016 5K Run/Walk and a 1-mile family fun walk will be held June 4 at Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Accomack County.
Registration must be completed by May 27 and includes a T-shirt, placement awards and refreshments. The cost for the 5K is $20 per person, and the fun walk is $15 per person. Children under 8 can participate for free.
Participants will be encouraged to read educational signs next to a variety of crops along the course.
“This will be our second time putting on the 5K, and it is great way to not only showcase Eastern Shore agriculture but also inform people about the crops they drive by every day,” said Matt Hickman, co-chairman of the Eastern Shore Young Farmers. Members of that group, which is co-hosting the event with the AREC, are affiliated with Accomack County Farm Bureau and Northhampton County Farm Bureau.
Check-in will begin at 7 a.m., with the 5K starting at 8 and the fun walk at 8:30. For more information call the Accomack County Farm Bureau at 757-787-4208.
