Fun Run Racing’s popular Thanksgiving morn “Turkey Trot” before the meal

It is time to strut your stuff-at least in terms of Thanksgiving holiday fun. Rob Dulin and Ian Connor of the Running Store in Gainesville are ready to bring on the holiday with their idea of fun known as a run.

Dulin eagerly explained, “Our upcoming race, the Prince William Turkey Trot and One-Mile Fun Run Walk is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Nov. 27 at the Freedom and Aquatic Center in Manassas. Our main goal is to engage the community with celebratory races close to home. We believe that proximity offers a variety of benefits for runners. For one, it allows the whole family to take part in the event. Two, it provides ample parking. And last and most importantly, the runner does not have to wake up before sunrise to commute to D.C. or surrounding cities to enjoy a fun, competitive race.”

These energetic souls believe that the holiday is a perfect day for a 5K.

“Everyone goes into Thanksgiving dinner, ” Dulin noted, “expecting to overindulge on turkey, stuffing, gravy and pumpkin pie. But just think-before sitting down to the late afternoon feast the Turkey Trot offers residents the opportunity to burn off some calories while celebrating the American holiday in an active and festive way!”

Just to make the whole thing a bit more festive, Dulin and Connor want runners to feel free to wear their best Thanksgiving gear.

“We would be more than happy to see Pilgrims, a Pocahontas here and there, a pie, Native American costuming and whatever else strikes the turkey trotting runners fancy as they burn off some calories ahead of the big meal,” Dulin commented.

“We also strongly encourage participants,to get to know your friends and neighbors along the way.”

Just to make things even more snazzy, Dulin said, “There will be music, best costume awards and our World Famous finish line envelopes featuring the random Golden Ticket Awards.”

He added, “Rumor has it that we will give away 100 pumpkin pie Duck Donuts!”

The Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center has opened its facility so particpants and spectators can stay warm both pre and post-race. A DJ will be playing music from 8:00-10:30.

There are serious awards in place as well which include the top five men and women receiving Running Store gift cards in amounts ranging from $25 to $100.

“All runners, Dulin said,” receive a FRR finish line envelope which features a mystery gift. Age group awards will go to the top three male and female runners in each age group from 10 and under up to 80+”

There is obviously something for everyone in this savory event. If that is not enough, all 5K participants receive an awesome long sleeve race tee and a custom commerative race bib. All 1 mile participants receive a cool short sleeve race tee and a custom commemorative race bib.”

Procrastinator registration(Nov. 16-Nov. 21) 5k-$40, 1 mile-$20.
