Participants ranging in age from 50 to 89 competed in swimming and diving in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics being held Sept. 13-24. They competed in five year age groups by gender.
In the diving competition at Carlos Rodriguez of Dumfries won a gold medal and set a new record in the men’s ages 75-79 division.
Six swimming events took place at the Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling
Capturing a gold medal in the half mile free style was Joyce Tobias of Haymarket in the 75-79 women’s division.
Jane Geison swam off with gold medals in the other five gold medals in the women’s events in the same age category. Geison won In the 100 yard and 50 yard Freestyle divisions, the 100 yard and 50 yard backstroke competitions and 50 yard breasstroke division.
In the 50 yard freestyle division for men Scott Triplett of Haymarket was a gold medalist in the 60-64 age group.
NVSO continues through Sept. 24 at various venues throughout Northern Virginia. Adults 50 years of age and older living in a Northern Virginia jurisdiction are eligible to participate.
