PW athletes bring home 10 gold medals from Senior Olympics 10K and 20K cycling events

Cyclists competed in the 2014 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, 10K and 20K cycling events, Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Northern Fauquier Community Park in Marshall.  The event is divided into five year age groups by gender.

Gold medalists in the 10K race were (women)  age 65-69, Lynn Saunders, Gainesville, and age 75-79, Joyce Tobias, Haymarket. In the men’s division 10K race gold medalists were age 70-74, Kenneth Weinzapfel, Gainesville, age 80-84, Thomas Tobias, Haymarket and age 85-89, Otto Gercken, Gainesville.         
   
Saunders, Joyce Tobias, Weinzapfel, Thomas Tobias and Gercken were also the gold medalists in their respective age and gender categories in the 20K event.

The competition drew participants from every Northern Virginia jurisdiction. Participants must be 50 years of age and live in the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun or Prince William or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax or Falls Church.
