Beginning Sept. 1, 2021, all hunters (including those who are not required to purchase a license) who harvest a deer, turkey, bear, bobcat, or elk, will need to check their harvest by calling DWR (866-GOT-GAME), logging on to gooutdoorsvirginia.com, or by using the mobile app harvest reporting system, GoOutdoorsVa (free through the app store).
The Virginian Retirement Community, Fairfax, was the site of American style Mah Jongg, a new event with no age or gender divisions. The play followed National Mah Jongg League, Inc. rules. The gold medal winner was Phyllis Bowman of Haymarket with a score of 300.
Jane Geison of Haymarket took gold medals in five of six swimming events for women in the 2014 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics this week.
Five cyclists from Gainesville and Haymarket each won in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics 10K and 20K cycling events which were held Sept. 14 at Northern Fauquier Community Park in Marshall.
Dan Durante, 70, Gainesville, will attempt to set a new world record for 61 pull-ups within one minute for the Guinness Book of Records on Saturday, Sept. 13, at noon. at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 S. 2nd St., Arlington.

Virginia State Parks, managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, offer the outdoors enthusiast a variety of hunting opportunities, including reservation-only hunts and open hunting, throughout the season. Hunters can reserve stands or zones on a first-come, first-served basis for a number of hunts, with various reservation dates starting Sept. 4.
