Beginning Sept. 1, 2021, all hunters (including those who are not required to purchase a license) who harvest a deer, turkey, bear, bobcat, or elk, will need to check their harvest by calling DWR (866-GOT-GAME), logging on to gooutdoorsvirginia.com, or by using the mobile app harvest reporting system, GoOutdoorsVa (free through the app store).

Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) has announced stocking dates for select trout waters this spring. This new initiative is in response to recent surveys of trout license holders and anglers which indicate that many trout anglers would like to see more preannounced stockings.

Meagan Sanchez was named the Southern Conference's Defensive Player of the Month for volleyball matches in November and led Western Carolina defensively, averaging 5.95 digs per set over the season's final five matches. Sanchez is a Libero for WCU's Catamounts (wild cats).

“We often walk into gyms and referees will even give us the “walking dead stare” because we just don’t have tall girls,” says Middleburg Academy’s volleyball coach, Maureen DiClementi, Va. Independent School Athletic Association's “Coach of the Year” in 2015 and again in 2016. The Middleburg Academy Dragons played in 43 matches this season, making it the only school in Virginia to do so – and racking up a record of 40-3.

The ISSA has had an excellent response with entries in the 2017 ISF/ISSA World Tournament of Champions at Tampa, Florida. As of Dec. 1, 2016, some 132 teams have entered the tournament...the largest ISSA tournament ever and perhaps the largest three-day single weekend senior tournament in the USA. The organizers will be using 27 fields throughout the Tampa Bay Region in 2017 and the event will generate approximately 3500 room nights in local lodging.
