Virginia to transition to elecronic and phone reporting of game harvesting in September

Beginning Sept. 1, 2021, all hunters (including those who are not required to purchase a license) who harvest a deer, turkey, bear, bobcat, or elk, will need to check their harvest by calling DWR (866-GOT-GAME), logging on to gooutdoorsvirginia.com, or by using the mobile app harvest reporting system, GoOutdoorsVa (free through the app store).

National Hunting & Fishing Day Sept. 23 in Maryland

Hunters and others interested in the great outdoors are invited to take part in the 11th annual National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration Sept. 23, 2017. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Izaak Walton League of America will host a free, family-friendly event – rain or shine – from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 12759 Independence Road, Clear Spring, Washington County, which is near US 40 and the Hagerstown Speedway.

Trapper education class offered in Garrett County, MD; preregister before Sept. 8

Maryland Department of Natural Resources is offering a free class for anyone wanting to trap furbearers in the state. The class will take place Sept. 16, at Casselman Valley Sportsman’s Club in Grantsville. Preregistration is required.

Prince William supervisors okay pilot archery program on county land to manage deer population

Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently approved a pilot program to allow archers to hunt deer on county-owned properties this fall at Doves Landing, Locust Shade Park and Rippon Lodge Historic Site during times the sit are typically closed.

Mustangs Track Club registration now open for youths 5-16

Mustangs Track Club (MTC) has opened registration for its 2017 spring season. MTC is a program that seeks to teach children to be competitive, while having fun at the same time. The program is open to youth athletes ages 5-16 and has programs in Gainesville and Culpeper.
