PWC professional firefighters and police to square off for charity

Local 2598 Prince William Professional Fire Fighters and the Prince William County Police Association will host a charity soccer tournament / community day on July 27 at Patriot High School in Nokesville.

The winner will take home the Prince William Cup and return in 2015 to defend its title, in what organizers say will be an annual event.

The games are the backdrop for a free public safety community day. Among the festivities planned are 50/50 raffles, food, car seat checks, fire trucks, police cruisers, bounce houses and a dunk tank.

This event has been several months in the making, with “playoff” games occurring for the past several weeks, according to a news release.

On July 27, the consolation game will be played at 5 p.m.,  followed by the championship at 7 p.m..  The police and fire departments have both put together two teams, each team playing for a worthy charity.  In addition, public safety officers from Manassas and Manassas Park have also joined the teams.

Each of the four teams raised funds to pay a $750 entry fee which is being used to fill a large “charity pot”  to benefit the following charities: Concerns Of Police Survivors, IAFF Burn Foundation, Northern Virginia Family Service, and the Prince William Professional Fire Fighters’ Operation Warm.
