Cody’s Crew Foundation’s annual 5K to benefit neuroblastoma research is Sept. 30

Cody’s Crew Foundation’s annual 5K, Kids Mile & Tot Trot to help fund research in the hopes of finding new treatments and a possible cure for neuroblastoma, a deadly childhood disease, will be held for the fourth year with check-in beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, VA 20111.  The school is located at 8909 Euclid Avenue.

Events include a 5K walk/run race certified by USA TFA at 9 a.m.; a Kids Mile for ages 6-11 at 10:30 a.m.; and a Tot Trot at 11 a.m. More than 300 people supported the 2011 event, a news release said.

Cody’s Crew Foundation will award its first $100,000 grant at 10 a.m. to Dr. Katherine K. Matthay, MD. Dr. Matthay is the Director of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at the UCSF School of Medicine/UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, CA.

Race medals will be presented to all participants and tee-shirts are guaranteed to all who register by Sept. 23.  On-line registration is available at: https://www.codys-crew.org or register the day of the race.

Mickey and Diane Johnson founded Cody’s Crew Foundation (https://www.codys¬crew.org/) to help fund research in the hopes of finding new treatments and a possible cure for neuroblastoma, a deadly childhood disease. The Johnsons youngest child, Cody, was 6 ½ years old when he lost his battle against neuroblastoma on March 6, 2009.  Soon after Cody’s death, his family began assembling a group of dedicated volunteers who formed Cody’s Crew, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization.
