If you’ve ever visited a historic house museum before, you’ve probably heard one of the famous and popular “untruths,” such as the mortgage button at the end of a handrail, the whistle walk and that people were shorter “back then.”
In honor of the upcoming April Fools Day (always on April 1), staff of the Ben Lomond Historic Site at 10321 Sudley Manor Drive. Manassas, will conduct a series of myth-busting tours on Saturday, March 31, on the hour, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a small admission fee.
The tour will cover the main house and its outbuildings, so dress for the weather, advises Rob Orrison, site manager. Ben Lomond is owned by Prince William County government and is one of the sites managed by the sounty’s Historic Preservation Division, a part of the Department of Public Works.
