Artist Web Bryant spent 12 months “observing, sketching and painting the extraordinary dancers” of Manassas Ballet Theatre as they rehearsed and performed. Bryant’s works in oils and pastels on the troupe’s 2017-2018 season, Now his “Four Ballets, One Year, One Painter” exhibit is showing at Center for the Arts in Old Town Manassas until Oct. 31.
Meet the artist at a reception Saturday, Sept. 22, 7-9 p.m., and see a brief excerpt from Manassas Ballet Theatre’s production of Dracula at 7:30 p.m.
“My paintings combine a journalistic eye for the narrative, and an intimate view of the passing moment. I paint real places and real people. Places you want to go and people you would like to meet,” Bryant was quoted as saying in a news release announcing the upcoming show.
Before turning to fine art, Bryant was a senior illustrator at USA Today for 30 years. He teaches at the Yellow Barn Studio at Glen Echo Park and is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters.
