History hike May 19 at Manassas Battlefield

Manassas Battlefield Trust will present a special four-hour walking tour at Manassas Battlefield on Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and led by historian John Hennessy.

This hike will follow the footsteps of thousands of Confederates—including Jackson’s men—along forgotten woods roads as they entered the fighting on Henry Hill in the war’s first major battle.  It will include Portici—Confederate headquarters—the woods road followed by Stonewall Jackson’s men, and then an exploration of the entire Confederate position on Henry Hill, from the Warrenton Turnpike to the Robinson house and along Jackson’s line. This will look at the day through the eyes of those who were there….

The meeting location will be e-mailed to registered participants, who are asked to arrive at 8:45 a.m. so the hike can begin promptly.

Hike fee is $30 for Manassas Battlefield Trust members and $45 for non-members, including a discounted one-year Private level membership. A mid-morning refreshment break is included. Hikers are reminded to dress for the weather and bring water.
