Here are some of the upcoming programs Prince William County’s Historic Preservation Division has planned in August:

August 11 - Overnight Stay at the Pringle House Hospital, 8 p.m.- 8 a.m.; $100 per person, reservations are required.
After the Battle of First Manassas, Ben Lomond was converted into the Pringle House Hospital to care for hundreds of wounded soldiers. Join site historians to spend the night in the hospital and learn about the wounded soldiers treated there. Breakfast will be provided in the morning. Ben Lomond Historic Site, 703-367-7872.

August 11 and August 25 - Revolutionary Readers – A Book Club for Young Readers, 10 a.m.-Noon; $7 per child
Young readers are invited to explore books and topics connected to early American history through the eyes of young adults. Each gathering of readers will include a discussion of the book and other related activities. A book list will be provided at time of registration. All titles are available at the local library. August 14-18 Civil War Advanced Camp, 9 am to noon, $150 per participant, ages 8 to 13
Participants will have the opportunity to speak with a famous officer from the war, expand their knowledge of campaign foods and how they were prepared, learn of the cavalry, participate in artillery drill, build a sunshade. August 19-20 So You Want To Be A Civil War Soldier Camp 9 a.m. Sat. to 1 p.m. Sun.; $250 for parent and child ages 13-16
Participants will enlist in a company, establish a camp and become a soldier in camp for two days through a series of hands on activities and drills. Parents and children will be staying in shelter tents and performing camp duties. August 19 - free Double Event Day at Historic Brentsville: Art in the Park 10 a.m.-2 p.m. & Movie Night at 8 p.m.
Join us for a day filled with art—featuring local artists, free art supplies for art projects, free workshops, and local art for sale! Later, when it gets dark, come back for our 4th Annual Brentsville Movie Night! Featured film: The Count of Monte Cristo. Bring chairs or blankets. Concessions will be available for purchase. August 19 National Bee Day at Rippon Lodge, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; $5 per person
With special guest Sweet Virginia and the Freedom High School Bee Club, learn about honey bees, how they work as a hive, produce honey, how you can contribute to protect these endangered species, and what can be made out of the honey and wax. Taste fresh honey as well. Rippon Lodge Historic Site, 703-499-9812.

August 21 Museum Kids Monday! 10 -11:a.m.; $5 per child, ages 8 and under
Bring your child to explore history through sight, sound, smell, and touch through hands-on activities and crafts. Topics vary each month and will include subjects such as farming, textiles, or 19th century toys and more. Adult must be able to participate with children. August 26 Rippon Lodge Car Display 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.; $5 Suggested Donation
Enjoy a display of vintage and classic cars on the lawns of Rippon Lodge Historic Site. Cars from 1900-1970 are welcome to be displayed. Period games available for kids to play on the lawn. Guided tours of the lodge are available for $5 per person on the hour. Rippon Lodge Historic Site, 703-499-9812.
