Fauquier Historical Society has joined with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9835 in planning a series of events to discuss various topics having to do with World Wars I and II.
The first meeting of the Round Table of the World Wars will be on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the John Barton Payne Building, located at 2 Courthouse Square, Warrenton, VA, 20186.
Tim Nosal will be the presenter. He will focus on America’s World War I & II commemorative programs. Nosal currently works for the American Battlements Commission and is the Post Commander of VFW post 9835 in Warrenton. The round table discussion will be ongoing, with a new discussion topic introduced for every meeting.
“Following both World Wars, the government went though extraordinary measures to ensure all Americans who lost their lives overseas were appropriately remembered. Overseas, 23 cemeteries were established for the two wars that not only included more than 200,000 burials but commemorations by name for each individual missing in action, lost at sea or buried at sea. Our overseas cemeteries are truly national shrines,” Nosal was quoted as saying in a press release.
Phil Kasky, Board of Directors, Fauquier Historical Society, was quoted in the press release as saying, “We are eager to host this Round Table of the World Wars discussion as it is just the beginning of what we plan as a series of Round Table events delving into America’s role in both major wars of the last century. We think our topics will touch America’s service men, women and their families.”
Kasky was further quoted as saying, “We particularly hope to bring our Fauquier County residents together as these discussions will resonate with those whose family members served overseas in those great wars. This is our history. Future topics will focus on America’s roles in the wars and that of our allies and enemies, and their strategies in all theaters of both world wars, key personalities, stories of small units and individuals (such as from our own Fauquier residents), key allied operations, the ‘Home Front,’ POWs and on-going search for remains, and much more. Please join us for these events.”
