Living history re-enactors, historians, displays, activities and much more will be featured at this year’s Manassas Civil War Weekend, Aug. 26-28.
The Manassas Museum will be open free from 9 to 9 with featured exhibits. Events will kick off with the opening artillery firing on Friday, Aug. 26 at 6:45 p.m. on the Manassas Museum lawn, 9101 Prince William Street. Then catch the keynote address by John Hennessy, National Park Service, Fredericksburg.
A Civil War Dance with period music will take place at the Harris Pavilion at 8 p.m.
On Battle Street, Battle Street Live (21st century music ) will be offered from 5 to 11 p.m.
Stories in Stone will take place at 9 p.m. at the Manassas Confederate Cemetery and visitors can hear stories of its inception and those buried there.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, there will be a re-enactor parade at 10 a.m. through the streets of Old Town Manassas.
This will be followed by military demonstration, Children’s Scavenger Hunt, speakers, artillery and infantry demonstrations, Ladies of the War, Civil War Trails Tour of historic Downtown Manassas, Bourbon Tasting, Civil War music, Commemoration of Jackson’s Raid with railroad car burning and Civil War Dance.
On Sunday, Aug. 28, an interfaith service at 9 a.m. will be followed by a Children’s Scavenger Hunt, speakers, military demonstrations, Civil War Trails Tour, Ice Cream Social and Manassas Symphony Orchestra at Harris Pavilion and the Artillery Firing Farewell Salute at 3:45 with the events ending at 4 p.m.
Events will also take place Aug. 27-28 at the Liberia Plantation, including a house tour. Free wagon rides will be available throughout the two days between the museum and plantation.
A special one-day exhibit of a Civil War Mourning Display will take place inside the museum on Aug. 27 only.
