Manassas Symphony to bring huge orchestra to stage May 14

The Manassas Symphony Orchestra, augmented by talented student musicians, will be the largest orchestra ever to grace the stage of the Hylton Performing Arts Center on May 14 at 7:30 p.m. presenting its season finale concert: Musical Titans.

MSO Music Director, James Villani will lead the performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 with 104 players, 18 of whom are students from several area schools.

The instrumentation for this massive symphony is also quite different than what is normally heard.  There will be nine French horns instead of the usual 2 to 4, five different kinds of clarinets, 5 trumpets, and a reinforced percussion section.

The featured soloist is prize winning pianist Tomasz Robak, who will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58.  Robak is a doctoral student at the renowned Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD.

All seats for the Manassas Symphony Orchestra concerts in Merchant Hall of the Hylton Performing Arts Center (HPAC) are reserved and everyone needs a ticket.

Individual concert tickets are available at the Hylton Center Ticket Office open Tuesday-Saturday 10 am to 6 pm and Thursday 10 am to 8 pm and two hours before the performance begins.
