Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) and the Virginia Department of Forestry are offering “Backyard Woods Workshop.” on Friday, May 6 from 9am to 2pm at the VCE Office at 24 Pelham St. in Warrenton.
This training will help small woodlot owners (1-10 acres) identify management goals and outline ways to reach those objectives on your small woodlot.
The workshop will use the award winning, The Woods in Your Backyard: Learning to Create and Enhance Natural Areas Around Your Home, to equip land owners to be better stewards of their property.
Whether you are interested in converting lawn to forest, creating wildlife habitat, or providing a useful outdoor space for your family, this training is for you.
The training will help landowners establish their boundary and lot lines, as well as evaluate their soils, and develop and plan with all involved.
The presentation is part of a series of similar trainings that will be held in Fredrick, Rockingham, and Albemarle Counties. Each training will include information on attracting wildlife, selecting forest trees, managing invasive plants, improving water availability, and alternatives to lawns.
The “Backyard Woods Workshop” program is $30 per person or $45 per couple and open to the public. It will last approximately five hours and a meal will be provided. Seating is limited, so it is recommended to register early.
