Are you a NOVEC customer and is your child an award-winning young artist?

Virginia students in grades K-5 whose homes receive power from an electric cooperative (Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) in this area) are invited to enter the 14th annual Electric Co-op Youth Art Contest.  Deadline is May 1.

The theme for the 2016 contest is “My Favorite Hobby.”

First-, second-, and third-place winners in each grade category will be featured in the July 2016 issue of Cooperative Living magazine.

First-place winners will each receive a $25 cash prize. The entry judged Best of Show in all categories will receive a $100 cash prize and be featured on the cover of the July magazine.

Artwork should be done vertically in “portrait” style on 8 ½-by-11-inch white paper. Entries should include the child’s name, age, grade, mailing address, and family’s daytime phone number. Entries should be mailed unfolded to:

More than 500 aspiring artists grades K-5 throughout Virginia submitted artwork in the 2015 contest. Since the contest began in 2002, winners have included children whose families receive electric power from NOVEC.

“We started the Youth Art Contest to encourage youthful creativity and give kids a chance to show their art to the magazine’s 1.25 million readers,” explains Bill Sherrod, Cooperative Living’s editor. “Judges are always impressed with both the quality and creativity of the students’ work.”
