Sen. Colgan’s May 9 golf tournament at Evergreen to benefit Transitional Housing BARN

Senator Charles Colgan will host BARN’s annual golf tournament on Monday, May 9, at Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket.  All proceeds go to BARN’s programs to end homelessness.

BARN operates a transitional housing program in Bristow and participates in homeless prevention and rapid re-housing programs. Last year, BARN assisted 35 adults and 49 children through its rapid re-housing program.

Tournament registration starts at 7:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.  The format is captain’s choice.  Entry fee includes goody bag, breakfast, grilled lunch on the patio, free beer, soda and snacks on the course and awards banquet.  Prizes awarded for the men’s and women’s longest drive, men’s and women’s closest to the pin, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams.  Hole-In-One wins $10,000.

BARN’s tournament has two contests within the tournament: the Financial Cup and the Service Cup. Banks, credit unions and financial planners are invited to compete for the Financial Cup trophy.  In 2015, BB&T Bank took home the prize.  Service groups such as Rotary, Lion’s Clubs, Knights of Columbus, Women’s Clubs, churches, non-profits are eligible to compete for the Service Cup.  Greenwich Presbyterian Church was the 2015 winner.

Team entry fee is $600 a foursome and individual entry fee is $150.  Enroll online at http://www.barninc.org or call 703-369-1325.

Colin Davis, Executive Director explained:  “The golf tournament is one of our major fundraisers. The income from the tournament helps us provide comprehensive services that enable us to successfully get homeless families back on their feet and into permanent housing.”

BARN’s transitional program provides up to two years of housing and addresses the issues that lead to homelessness: low job skills, educational barriers, financial illiteracy, and poor decision making.  Successful graduates increase their incomes and maintain permanent housing.

Homeless prevention and rapid re-housing programs enable BARN to assist more families.  Reduction in work hours, layoffs and chronic illness all too frequently result in evictions.  Preventing the loss of a place to live or quickly re-housing the families lessens the trauma associated with homelessness.  BARN provides case management and temporary financial assistance to families enrolled in these programs.

BARN is grateful to sponsors, NOVEC, Wine Energy, US Foods, Benedictine Sisters of Virginia, Apple Federal Credit Union, My Plumber, Mary Ann Ghadban, and Dr. and Mrs. Sid Hamid. Additional sponsorship and underwriting opportunities are available.  For more information contact: Colin Davis, MSW, Executive Director at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call 703-369-1325
