Soroptimist International of Manassas will mark 60 years on Saturday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at the Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville with a dinner, comedy and magic show, silent auction and raffle to benefit scholarships and grants for women and girls, and to help fund local service projects.
The event will highlight the club’s six decades of providing services that improve the lives of women and girls in its local community. The celebration will feature a comedy and magic show by Scott Alexander.
Alexander, an America’s Got Talent quarterfinalist, has also appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, headlined at Caesars Palace, and was featured on the Discovery, Showtime and SyFy channels.
SI Manassas president Cheryl Walter was quoted in a news release as saying, “Our major program, the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award, is something of which we are very proud. It is a very unique grant in that it can be used where the funds are most needed, whether that is for books, childcare, or even transportation. We have been able to help many women since the award program started in 1972.”
