National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico Base to be closed temporarily

Construction has begun on the Final Phase of the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico. This section will open in phases over a 4-year period, with the first part opening in 2017 and should be completely finished by 2020.

As a part of the overall construction, the Museum will be closed Jan. 4-March 31, 2016 to hang an SBD Dauntless aircraft in Leatherneck Gallery and replace the gallery’s Korean War Sikorsky HRS-2
helicopter exhibit with a model depicting a UH-34D helicopter during Operation Starlight in 1965.

Other new additions to the museum will include an IMAX-style movie theater and additional educational galleries.

Outside the museum, an outdoor playground, the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel, its nearby memorials, and pathways on the museum grounds are expected to remain open during construction.

The museum gift shop will continue to operate online during the closure.
