Community performances of the Polar Express by the “A Street Bruins” are scheduled on Dec. 9, 10, and 11 at Forest Park High School at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
This performance of the popular children’s story of a train ride draws students from PWCS elementary and middle schools and is open to the community.
The tradition began in 2003 when the “A Street Bruins” performed a simple version of the Polar Express with handmade props for audiences of only 50 people in the school’s mini-theater. Now, it has evolved into a multi-media extravaganza performed with sophisticated props created by the engineering design students in the auditorium before packed houses of 800.
The “A Street Bruins” are students at Forest Park High School who are participating in a functional curriculum through the Special Education Department.
The performance is a result of a collaborative effort of the students and many other departments within the school, including technical education, science, graphic art, and construction, to name a few.
“They have created a tradition that makes the holiday season special,” said Special Education Teacher Maryann O’Brien.
