Some spooky, ghoulish events are happening at Prince William County’s recreation centers and regional parks in October.
Holley Young, the General Manager at the Sharron Baucom-Dale City Recreation Center, said the events will be fun for everyone. “The Department of Parks and Rec has really something for everybody – all members of the family at all ages at different locations.”
Boo! At the Pool on Oct. 17 at the Sharron Baucom-Dale City Recreation Center is a family event that is always a favorite. The event runs between 6 and 8 p.m., Young said. “Boo! At the Pool is a pass holder event. If you’re a pass holder at our facility, you can bring guests, friends, family, neighbors; and we decorate the pool area. We do face painting. Obviously, there’s swimming. We’ll have lots of decorations. People can come in costume if they want, or they can just come and have a family swim night.
“In addition, we’ve got fun-filled group fitness classes that are time-tested ghoulish activities of glow-in-the-dark yoga … and a Spooky Spin Ride in our spinning studio,” she said.
The Great Pumpkin Party, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Oct. 26 at the Sharron Baucom-Dale City Recreation Center, will include a snack and a costume party. Young said the 3- to 5-year-olds love it. “Kids come in costume. They parade around, and they walk away with a craft. The big epic ending of it is they have a costume parade through the facility.”
The Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center’s Spooky Splash Bash from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 24 is also a pool event with lots of activities, including decorations on the pool deck, face painting and games. There is also the Halloween Hustle 5k running event at 9 a.m. on Oct. 24 at the Chinn Center that’s open for ages 8 to adult.
The Ben Lomond Community Center is offering Halloween Fun Fest for 3- to 15-year-olds between 2 and 4 p.m. on Oct 24. There will be crafts, treats, games, prizes and a costume contest at the festival.
Silver Lake Regional Park’s Pumpkin Fest promises fun in the outdoors from 2-4 p.m. on Oct 25. “Out at Silver Lake Regional Park on the far western end of the county, there’s Pumpkin Fest offered for the whole family where they’re going to be doing a pumpkin patch and an arts-and-crafts project with some of the great outdoor fall foliage,” Young said.
