City of Manassas Utilities Department will have an open house to celebrate Public Power Week, on Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city government site on Public Works Drive, off Portner Ave. near Didlake.
The public is invited to enjoy a free pumpkin patch, a moon bounce, bucket truck rides, a light lunch and more. Participants will see how water and electric get from the source to the house. There will also be a visit from the ice cream truck.
Public power systems were first created in 1880. The City of Manassas Utilities celebrated 100 years of service in 2014. Public utility companies measure their success by how much money stays within the community through lower utility rates.
