On Saturday, Nov. 1, Fauquier County Sesquicentennial Committee will present a free Civil War History symposium commemorating the year of 1864 during the American Civil War.
The Symposium will be the last major event in 2014 organized by the Fauquier County Sesquicentennial Committee during the state’s commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War. The commemoration period began in 2009 and will come to a close in 2015 in parallel with the end of the Civil War with Lee’s surrender to Grant on April 9, 1865.
The event will take place at the John Barton Payne building in Old Town Warrenton, and will consist of interesting national and local speakers with Civil War topics, followed by a Camp Dance in the late afternoon. A $10.00 donation per person and a student rate of $5.00 will be collected at the door for the Camp Dance and the proceeds will be used by the Sesquicentennial Committee for the final Symposium in 2015 entitled The Destiny of the Tattered Flag. Period clothing invited but not required for the Camp Dance.
