Rosemary Gallick’s portraits of famous women exhibited at Manassas NOVA March 4-28

Paintings by Rosemary Gallick will be on display at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College March 4-28 in honor of Women’s History Month. Called “Wonder Women,” the exhibition features artworks demonstrating the important contributions made by women to American culture.

Portraits of political leaders and popular icons such as Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey are included. The largest painting, “Women Who Rock,” shows numerous familiar women in the music industry. Two tributes to visual artists are featured:  a Georgia O’Keefe portrait and “Homage to Manet.” A mixed-media piece titled “This is What a Feminist Looks Like” asks viewers to examine their own faces in the attached mirror.

“Tina Turner” and “Ruth Ginsberg” will make appearances in the form of life-size cutouts during a reception for the artist March 19 at noon. Guests may take photos with Tina and Ruth while enjoying refreshments.

Gallick’s artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States, and she has published numerous articles and presented many talks about art and popular culture. Gallick lives in Centreville and teaches art history at NOVA’s Woodbridge Campus.

The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. The art gallery in Colgan Hall is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The campus is at 6901 Sudley Road.
