Coming March 20, a Prince William Extension Service home economist will lead “Living Well with Diabetes, a lifestyle program for people with diabetes and their families.
The 4-session program and follow up three months later focuses on the consequences of high blood sugar and how to improve lifestyle behaviors. It covers exercise, the importance of correctly taking medications, and having eyes, feet and kidneys monitored.
Food shopping, preparation and eating out are covered in detail. Participants learn how to handle the questions “what am I going to cook for dinner” or “I am in the fast-food drive through, what do I order?”
A light meal is included from 6 to 6:30 p.m. followed by the class session until 8 p.m. The $50 fee for people with diabetes includes A1c test at the first and follow-up classes and a notebook of information and recipes.
The Thursday sessions begin March 20, 2014 at the county’s McCoart administration building in Woodbridge. Call Virginia Cooperative Extension Nutrition Program at 703-792-4764 for more information or to register.
