Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel, centerpiece of musical and cultural life in Northern Israel, will appear at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m., performing some of the world’s most treasured classical music works.
A pre-performance discussion, free to ticketholders, begins at 3:15 p.m. in the Hylton Center’s Buchanan Partners Art Gallery. Novant Health is the 2013-2014 Hylton Presents Season Sponsor.
Under the baton of Maestro Boguslaw Dawidow, the orchestra will appear in Northern Virginia as part of its first tour of the United States.
The program will feature Carl Maria von Weber’s Overture to “Euryanthe” and Tchaikovsky’s impressive Symphony No. 4.
Young, award-winning Israeli pianist Roman Rabinovich will join the orchestra to perform one of the most difficult works in piano literature, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
Founded in 1950, Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel is one of the most distinguished orchestras in its homeland, with more than 5,000 annual subscribers to its performance series.
In addition, the orchestra presents diverse programming for its community, including the Chazanut Series (Jewish music), popular themed concerts such as “Abbey Road” and “Sounds of America” and performances at city festivals and holiday events.
The orchestra has received the Prime Minister’s Award in Israel for its commitment to performing original Israeli compositions and supporting Israeli soloists and conductors.
Acclaimed conductor and musician Noam Sheriff serves as the music director of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel.
Polish-born conductor Boguslaw Dawidow is recognized worldwide for the breadth of his musical knowledge, immense passion and welcoming stage presence.
In addition to serving as principal guest conductor with Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel, he holds the same role with the Bogota Symphony Orchestra and serves as the general music director of the Chopin Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble that he founded in the 1980s.
He previously led Opole Philharmonic of Poland, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra and Russian National Academic Symphony Orchestra in Tomsk.
In 2002, the American Biographical Institute in New York bestowed Dawidow with the title “Man of the Year,” in honor of his countless musical accomplishments across the globe.
“[Roman Rabinovich’s] mature, self-assured playing belies his chronological age,” raves the San Francisco Classical Voice about this exceptionally gifted young pianist who collected top prize and four additional prizes at the 2008 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition and first prize at the Animato Competition.

Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel will perform at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts in Fairfax on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at 8 p.m. Under the baton of Boguslaw Dawidow, Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel brings a spectacular program that includes Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor. Virtuoso violist Avshalom Sarid joins the orchestra for “Melodies for Mount Carmel,” by Israeli composer Uri Bracha. The ensemble concludes with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, “From the New World.”
