Critically acclaimed troupe Imago Theatre returns to the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at 2 p.m. with “FROGZ,” an enchanting mix of dance, circus arts and illusions combined with sidesplitting humor and witty commentary.
The Boston Globe said, “‘FROGZ’ is that rare theatrical event: family-friendly entertainment that is actually friendly for everyone … lively … inventive … remarkably acrobatic … thrilling … hysterical … now, that’s entertainment!”
This performance is a part of the Hylton Family Series, featuring events for families to enjoy and experience the arts together.
Imago Theatre’s signature work “FROGZ,” which has had two Broadway runs, features a cast of five who transport the audience out of their everyday lives in segments that include frogs doing acrobatics, penguins playing musical chairs, lizards wrestling, dancing strings, a curious giant baby and a paper bag coming to life.
The imaginative piece was the first work created by Imago Theatre in 1979, and it has since evolved with the addition of new characters, actors, designers and original music. “Terrific! It is hard to name a show better suited to introduce kids to the imaginative power of theater.” (National Public Radio)
Founded in 1979 by Carol Triffle and Jerry Mouawad, Imago Theatre strives to put form and design at the heart of theater creation, while incorporating a distinctive physical energy and stunning masks and disguises into each production. The company has been hailed for its ingenuity and creativity on its tours across Asia, Europe, Canada and the United States, and presents a season at home in Portland, Ore.
Imago Theatre is a recipient of the New York Dance Film Award and “Best Touring Production” by Independent Reviewers of New England. Two of Imago Theatre’s most celebrated productions, “ZooZoo” and “FROGZ,” have appeared several times at Broadway’s New Victory Theater, and “FROGZ” has appeared at the Tony Award-winning American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Mass. “[Imago Theatre are] masters of mime, dance and acrobatics … inspired fun!” (The New York Times)
