The Woodbridge Flute Choir’s annual Holiday Concert is Dec. 14 in Nokesville

The Woodbridge Flute Choir (WFC) will present its annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 3:00PM at Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Nokesville, VA.

Featured guest harpist Cambria Van de Vaarst will perform Fantasy on Coventry Carol by Catherine McMichael and Greensleeves by Bjorn Martin with the flute choir.

WFC members Lisa Sheldone, Zoraya Stern, Ginger Melby and Karen Edwards will be featured as soloists in Vivaldi’s Concerto in e minor.

Greenwich music director Lon Quinones will provide piano accompaniment on Silver Winds in the Night by Jackson Berkey, a beautiful arrangement of Silent Night.

Also included will be one movement of Handel’s Concerto Grosso in d minor arranged by John W. Gilbert, Lo, How A Rose E’er Blooming arranged by Todd Hayen, plus other seasonal favorites.

The concert will benefit “Farthest Corners,” a non-profit organization based in Nokesville and Thailand that provides humanitarian, medical, spiritual and educational assistance to the displaced people of Burma.

Admission to the concert is free but a free-will offering will be taken for Farthest Corners to purchase medical kits, rice and other necessary items for refugees along the Thailand/Burma border.

The Woodbridge Flute Choir, directed by Debbie Gilbert and assisted by Lisa Sheldone, was founded in 1996 as an outlet and learning experience for volunteer adult flutists.

WFC has performed in a wide variety of concert series and events in the Washington, DC, metro area. It has also performed in renowned venues including the Kennedy Center and the White House, and at the National Flute Association Convention in Charlotte, NC in 2011 and in New Orleans, in 2013.

The group has created three commercial CDs and is working on its fourth, and has commissioned a number of world premieres from various composers.

The Woodbridge Flute Choir has 25 members who play flute, piccolo, alto flute, bass flute and contrabass flute.
