PW Wildflower Society to host fern expert Dr. Carl Taylor Nov. 18

Prince William Wildflower Society will host fern expert Dr. Carl Taylor on Monday, November 18, at 7:30 P.M. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 8712 Plantation Lane, Manassas, VA 20110.

Taylor who will discuss Ferns in the Natural Landscape.  He will describe great garden ferns for the Mid–Atlantic region as well as examine the unique structure of ferns and their fascinating life history. The life cycle of ferns reveals why ferns grow where they do and what they need from you as a gardener.

Taylor, a native of Missouri, holds a Ph.D. in Botany from Southern Illinois University.  He was Chair of the Botany Department at the Milwaukee Public Museum where he assisted with the development of exhibits, and conducted research.  He has taught university courses in general biology, plant taxonomy, and local flora. 

Recently he served as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation.  Taylor is now retired and volunteers at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum.  He is an avid gardener in his yard and greenhouse.

A short business meeting will take place. The meeting is free and everyone is welcome; members are encouraged to bring a guest. Refreshments will be served. Door prizes will be awarded.
