New Dominion Choraliers to perform “Tribute to Freedom” concert on Nov. 10

The New Dominion Choraliers of Prince William County will present a special concert this fall—- Tribute to Freedom—- to honor those who serve, and have served, in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the U.S. Coast Guard.

The concert will be performed on Sunday, Nov. 10,  at 2 p.m. at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, 18900 Jefferson Davis Highway, Triangle, VA 22172.  Admission to the museum and the concert is free.

The choir is under the direction of Katherine Nelson-Tracey since its inauguration 17 years ago.

New Dominion Choraliers have performed several concerts to pay tribute to those who defend our nation.  “Because this November marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, who also served with distinction in the United States Navy,” Nelson-Tracey explained, “a centerpiece of this concert will be a relatively new musical tribute to the former President.”

The music, entitled ‘JFK: Rise, Fall, Immortality’, by Kurt Bestor, was commissioned by the American Choral Directors Association for its National Convention in Dallas, Texas, in March 2013.  The tribute was first performed in Dallas at the JFK Memorial Plaza on March 15, 2013.

The concert will include several other patriotic songs.

Steve Hein, president of the Choraliers, noted that “we believe the rousing music of songs like ‘Stars and Stripes Forever’, and ‘Let Freedom Ring’ will enliven our commitments to those political and spiritual freedoms that are common to us all as a nation.  And we hope that songs like ‘Eternal Father, Strong to Save’ and ‘The Glory of His Promises’ will uplift your spirits, and remind you of the hopes and bonds that people everywhere share.”

The patriotic program will also include the National Anthem—-’The Star Spangled Banner’—-as well as traditional favorites like ‘God Bless America’ and ‘The Pledge of Allegiance’ as set to music.

The Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution, will present a color guard at the opening of the concert.  Marshall Maley on drums, and Robbie Melson on string bass, will accompany the Choraliers.

The New Dominion Choraliers is an award-winning volunteer, non-auditioned, chorus of dedicated amateur and professional musicians, and is widely recognized for its musically diverse performances.
