Ghosts, spirits and cemetery tours in the City of Manassas

The Manassas Museum is offering “spirited” events this October: Manassas Cemetery Tours on Oct. 11 and 25, a Ghosts of GeorgetownBook Talk on Oct. 20 and Spirits of Manassas walking tours on Oct. 26.

Manassas Cemetery Tours take place on Oct. 11 and 25 at 8 p.m. at 9317 Center Street.  Manassas Cemetery is the final resting place of a Congressional Medal of Honor winner from the North, members of the famed Civil War Prince William Cavalry, and many prominent citizens who helped shape the early years of Manassas.  The tours will feature costumed interpreters who will lead visitors by lantern through the cemetery.

On Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. author Tim Krepp will discuss his new book, Ghosts of Georgetown.  Krepp says he fell in love with the city of Washington as a history student at George Washington University, and has always had a particular fascination with tales of ghostly lore.  Georgetown’s cobbled streets and mansions provide the perfect backdrop for the stories Krepp tells in his book: the eerie moans of three sisters said to herald every death on the river; the R Street séance President Lincoln is rumored to have witnessed; or a phantom police officer who is still said to walk his lonely beat, joined by a razor-wielding ghoul on moonlit nights.

Spirits of Manassas Walking Tours, held on Oct. 26 and leaving from the museum at 6, 6:30, 7, 7:30 and 8 p.m., will be led by lantern light with costumed tour guides leading visitors through Old Town Manassas.  Hear weird, sublime and strange happenings from the past and present, and meet some spirited characters along the way.  Learn about Cary Nation’s efforts to change the city and curb disorder and mayhem, the touching stories of Civil War participants who took their last breaths on the Plains of Manassas, andother spirited stories to get you in the Halloween mood.
