Bridlewaves Swim Team (Bwaves) recently hosted a swim-a-thon that raised more than $3200 for two non-profit organizations in the community, SERVE and CASA.
The event was held at the Bridlewood Pool located at 13622 Harness Shop Court in Gainesville.
Fifty swimmers participated in the charity event swimming 82,425 meters (51 miles) in two 45 minute sessions and raised $3,330.46 to benefit both charities.
The proceeds were divided accordingly and SERVE received $1,665.23 and CASA received $1,665.23 to support the missions of the organizations.
At the swim-a-thon, CASA presented each of the Bwaves participants with a certificate acknowledging his or her hard work and dedication. The certificate read, “I arise in the morning torn between a desire to enjoy the world and a desire to improve the world … (E.B. White).”
Melissa Banks, president of the swim team board, was quoted in a news release as saying, “This was the Bwaves swimmers’ opportunity to give back to less fortunate children and families in need. It was truly a successful event that surpassed our goals and expectations.”
The swimmers arose to the challenge and did both during the Bwaves Swim-a-thon, the news release concluded.
The Bridlewaves Swim Team (Bwaves) was founded in 1998 as part of the community development. The Bwaves participate in the (summer) Prince William Swim League (PWSL).
