Family day Sept 14 at Chapman Beverley Mill Historic Site to mark Battle of Thoroughfare

In commemoration of the 151st Anniversary of the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap, the Turn The Mill Around Campaign is sponsoring a special day of tours, presentations and onsite family events at the Chapman Beverley Mill Historic Site in Prince William and Fauquier Counties.

Presentations and site tours by Civil War historians will be offered on Saturday, September 14, from 11 a.m.  to 3 p.m.

Archaeologists will be on site testing for evidence of the Civil War and the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap as well as helping to interpret the lives of people who lived and worked at the Mill.

Learn the surprising story of the men who fought the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap and the current efforts to preserve this local battlefield and industrial complex.  See the quarry where the battle occurred.

Meet interpreters who share their experiences of the battle. Enjoy 19th century music and see special exhibits on Civil War medicine and the Black Horse Cavalry.
