Joseph Ortiz named grand marshal of Greater Manassas Veterans Day Parade

Joseph Ortiz of Manassas, a U.S. Army veteran, will lead the Greater Manassas Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013.

Ortiz is a decorated, local enlisted non-career veteran.

Ortiz was deployed to the Middle East and served with distinction in Operations Desert Shield/Storm as a crew chief on a helicopter in 4/7 Cavalry.

He enlisted for active duty in the in the U.S. Army in November 1986 and served until June of 1991. He had obtained the rank of Sergeant E5. His military awards Include the prestigious Army Air Medal for “…exceptional meritorious achievement while performing aerial flight in support of combat operations…”.

He is a current and active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of The American Legion Post 10. 

He is employed (for more than 16 years) as Sales & Construction Coordinator at Summit Contractors, Inc. located in Manassas, VA.  In his off time he enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.

The parade, which begins at 11 a.m. in Old Town Manassas, will pay special recognition to all Desert Storm and Shield veterans.
