Three talented college students, two singers and a collaborative pianist, will perform at Covenant Presbyterian Church at 5640 Hoadly Road, Manassas, on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. to raise money for Our Community Place, the homeless shelter in Harrisonburg VA. Two of the three attend James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
The performance team consists of rising juniors JáVonn Bright, who attends Morgan State University and is a 2011 graduate of Duke Ellington School of the Arts; Kolina Sheng, a James Madison University student who graduated from McLean High School in 2011 and Leslie Zapiain of Woodbridge who also attends James Madison University and is a 2011 graduate of Seton School in Manassas.
Zapiain, a vocal music education major, said she is always seeking opportunities to sing and explained how the Aug. 7 fundraiser came to be. “It seemed only right that I should combine my love for singing and community service into one event. At the end of this semester, I received permission from the OCP [Our Community Place] staff to hold a fundraising recital for the home.”
The program will run for about an hour and will include a short intermission. The team will perform a variety of music, ranging from classical to spiritual to jazz standards. Tickets will be available at the door. Covenant Presbyterian Church is located at 5640 Hoadly Road, Manassas, VA 20112. The musicians are also willing to work for pay to give to charity.
