The Mormon Choir of Washington, DC, will perform “God Bless America! A Celebration of America,” a summer pops concert, on Saturday, June 8, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Loy E. Harris Pavilion, 9201 Center Street, in Old Town Manassas.
The program is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and to take a lawn chair and a picnic lunch. The performance will be held rain or shine.
The program will feature patriotic songs, traditional Americana, spirituals, hymns, show tunes, and other popular music.
It will include Paul Revere’s Ride, with words by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; Momma Look Sharp, from the musical 1776, Amazing Grace; the American folk song Cindy; We Fight Not for Glory, with words by Thomas Jefferson; Homeward Bound; God Bless America; and many other patriotic and inspiring songs.
The more than 90-member choir is in its 33rd season. It is composed of singers and musicians from about 50 congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from throughout the greater Washington area, including Prince William County. The choir’s repertoire of secular and sacred music includes major choral works of noted composers, show tunes, Americana and sacred hymns, a news release said.
