Company dancers from Showcase Dance Studio in Manassas will present a one-of-a-kind dance exhibition featuring student choreography at the Showcase studio on Saturday, Feb. 23. The studio is located at 11750 Sudley Manor Drive, Manassas VA 20109.
Performances will be at 4, 5:30 and 7 p.m. Get modestly priced tickets at the door. Proceeds will help pay for company dancers’ competition expenses in 2013.
Joye Thomas, company Instructor, came up with the concept of showcasing student choreography to raise funds for company dancers’ competition season, according to Crystal Carfagno, studio owner and artistic director.
Thomas met with students who showed a natural talent for artistic choreography and assigned genres of dance to each student. Student choreographers have been learning responsibility and accountability while scheduling rehearsals and setting choreography on a weekly basis, Carfagno said.
Carfagno said the student exhibition is part of her “more than just great dancing” philosophy. She was quoted as saying in a press release, “Our students are learning team concepts, discipline, respect, discovery, and confidence through this experience. Exhibitions such as this give us an opportunity showcase local talent while teaching our students that dance education can lead to dance careers both in the dance studio industry as well as professional venues.”
