Feb. 2 benefit for musician Doug Flynn & Family of Lake Ridge

A benefit featuring bands, vocals, raffle items and a silent auction will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Water’s Edge Seafood & Steaks, 13188 Marina Way, Woodbridge VA for Doug Flynn of Lake Ridge, who is battling cancer.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with a local DJ. First band will perform at 8:30 p.m.

From an early age, Doug became destined to be the phenomenal funkmeister he is today. His musical career started with Doug playing bass with numerous bands, including Matthews Drive and as an original founding member of Central Heat

His powerful and profound in-the-pocket 16th notes have rocked anyone lucky enough to hear him play.

Over the years Doug has generously used his God-given talents to help raise thousands of dollars for numerous causes and charities within the local community, according to his brother Dennis Flynn, one of the organizers of the Feb. 2 benefit.

Earlier this year, Doug just didn’t feel right, according to a flyer. In June he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his right lung. After many months of intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments, he continues to fight the battle with everything he has.

Unfortunately, the high cost of treatments has put a tremendous financial strain on Doug and his family, the flyer went on to say. He needs help to ease the financial burden so he can concentrate on healing.

Hear the cool sounds of Central Heat. Special guests on Saturday night will include Jimmy Russell, lead vocals, and Mike Hensley on bass guitar. Also performing during the evening’s benefit will be the Pauliticians and Downtown.
