Lovely, inventive harmonies and masterful bluegrass arrangements,” says Bluegrass Unlimited about these two remarkable musicians who enchanted audiences when they last appeared at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. This holiday season, Dailey & Vincent return to Manassas on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 8 p.m. with a heartwarming concert, “A Bluegrass Christmas,” which is billed as capturing the reason for the season. This performance is family friendly and tickets for youth grades 12 and under are half price when accompanied by an adult. A pre-performance discussion, free to ticket holders, begins 45 minutes prior to the performance in the Hylton Center’s Buchanan Partners Art Gallery. Prince William Hospital is the 2012-2013 Hylton Presents Season Sponsor. Prince William County is the Holiday Performances Sponsor.
“High lonesome magic with flawless picking and seamless harmonies on a thoughtful collection of secular and sacred songs,” says the News & Observer about this gifted duo who joined forces in 2007 and quickly caught the attention of audiences and critics alike with stunning harmonies, immaculate vocal arrangements and riveting performances. Prior to becoming a duo, Jamie Dailey was a member of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver and Darrin Vincent had worked with his sister, Rhonda Vincent, as well as Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder. Dailey and Vincent met at the 2001 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards show and quickly found amazing harmony in their vocal blend, as well as in their attitudes toward music, business and their Christian faith. After years of talking, planning and praying together, the pair moved forward with their musical partnership.
Since 2008, Dailey & Vincent have released five critically acclaimed records: “Dailey & Vincent,” “Brothers from Different Mothers,” “Singing from the Heart,” “Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers” and most recently, “The Gospel Side of Dailey & Vincent,” which has spent 41 weeks on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart, even making it to #1. In a review of the new album, The Washington Post said, “The duo of Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent has cracked open the formalism of religious string-band music by reaching out to mainstream country and even some humor to create an irresistible album. Of course, it helps that their duet singing is prettier than just about anyone’s.”
Throughout the years, the duo has won 13 IBMA Awards and 23 Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) Awards. Dailey & Vincent were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or a Group with vocals for “Elizabeth” on “Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers.” Their gospel album, “Singing From the Heart,” also won a 2011 Gospel Music Association Dove Award.
Joining Dailey (guitar, bass, and lead and harmony vocals) and Vincent (mandolin, bass, guitar, and lead and harmony vocals) onstage are Christian Davis (bass vocals and guitar), Jessie Baker (banjo), Jeff Parker (mandolin, guitar and harmony vocals) and B.J. Cherryholmes (fiddle).
