The Bull Run Cloggers will perform a free patriotic show Saturday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College, 6901 Sudley Road, Manassas. The show will be at NOVA’s Mary Louise Jackson Amphitheater. Parking is free by the amphitheater. For weather-related cancellations, call 703-530-8298.
The cloggers’ “The Patriotic Rhythm of America” performance will salute the United States with patriotic tunes as well as routines that demonstrate the heritage of traditional Appalachian clogging, according to Carlene Mackereth, public information officer for NOVA’s Manassas campus.
The Manassas-based group puts on more than 20 shows each year at craft shows, festivals, fairs, civic functions, celebrations and other events. Although clogging was traditionally done to bluegrass music, the Bull Run Cloggers dance to modern country, Celtic, top 40, swing and bluegrass. The group performs a variety of routines, including traditional Appalachian clogging, modern clogging, Irish and Canadian step-dancing, and swing.
The performance is part of NOVA’s Summer Evenings under the Stars series. The shows are funded by a grant from the NVCC Educational Foundation and sponsored by NOVEC. Upcoming shows feature the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra String Quartet on July 14 and Prince William Community Band on July 28. This is the second year for the series.
