Stewardship Virginia, a statewide campaign to encourage and recognize voluntary activities with a tangible impact on Virginia’s natural resources, continues this year with events across the state. The campaign features activities in both the spring and fall. The fall portion runs through Oct. 31.

Nothing beats the crisp, crunchy and sweet taste of Virginia Grown apples. Because the state grows so many varieties, there is an excellent selection throughout the season. Growers representing the state’s three major apple-growing areas, Northern Shenandoah Valley, Southwest and Central, anticipate a very good apple harvest this year.

Debbie Harvey, co-founder of Helping Haitian Angels, along with Lisa Ennis and Burdgetta Sedlak, both board members of HHA, spent the weekend of Aug. 23 moving 42 orphan Haitian children into homes that the nonprofit helped to build with donations, The homes are part of the first phase of Kay Anj Village, which includes four homes, a school, a church and fields, where the children can safely play.To help aid in the completion of the village and the care of the children, Helping Haitian Angels will be hosting Raise the Roof, their fourth annual auction and benefit Sept. 13 at Evergreen Country Club.
Bugs in your garden? Garden Club of Lake Ridge will hold a meeting and program Monday, September 8th at 7 p.m. at the Canterbury Woods Community Center, 12184 Chaucer Lane, Lake Ridge. The program is “Bugs in Your Garden” with guest speaker Ron Keys.
Virginia State Parks encourage everyone to visit their nearest park in September to participate in volunteer opportunities to support efforts including Stewardship Virginia, Day to Serve, National Public Lands Day, and the Sept. 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
There will be an OPEN CASTING CALL on Friday, Sept. 5 for background players for Point of Honor, an ABC Signature & Amazon Studios pilot directed by Randall Wallace, who directed Secretariat and wrote the screenplay for Braveheart and wrote and directed Heaven is for Real.

Volunteers are needed this week for neighborhood tutoring, to drive a Bristow woman to chemo at Georgetown occasionally and to teach literacy skills to adults.
Fauquier Community Theatre will be hosting auditions for Miracle on 34th Street for men, women, teens and children age 6 to mid 70s. Auditions will be held on Friday, September 19, from 6:30 to 8:30, Saturday, September 20, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Prince William Wildflower Society's September 15 meeting will feature a program by author and retired biologist Helen Hamilton on Ornamental Native Grasses.
