Staunton River State Park, in Scottsburg, has been named an International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), becoming the first park in Virginia and only the 25th park in the world with the designation.

Long before Steve Walts was superintendent of Prince William County Schools, he played a key role as the drum major of the Argonne Rebels Drum & Bugle Corps that brought home two national championships to Great Bend, Kansas.
Lovers of Bluegrass and classic Country music can attend festivals like the Richmond Folk Festival or the Galax Old Fiddlers' Convention, the largest and oldest in the world. These festivals offer travelers an opportunity to experience authentic toe-tappin', porch-stompin' music right here in the Commonwealth. And fans of more modern music can attend events like Lockn' and Bristol Rhythm and Roots to see the big names they know and love.
Greater Manassas Children’s Choir, a new opportunity for singers in rising grades 2-8, will begin rehearsals in September. Sponsored by the Manassas Chorale, singers will be divided into younger and older groups and will rehearse from mid-September through mid-May. Concerts will be given in December and May.

As stream monitors, residents will be able to send more county stream data to the Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEQ) under the Save our Streams (SOS) citizen science monitoring program.
Gainesville Plumbing is hosting a food drive now through Aug. 31 to support the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry (HRFP). Donations may be dropped off in the company's lobby at 7679 Limestone Dr., #140, Gainesville, VA 20155 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday or handed to a company service technician during service calls.
