House of Mercy needs volunteers Oct. 17 to pack 150,000 meals in Campaign to End Hunger

The House of Mercy is sponsoring the fifth annual Campaign to End Hunger, a project which will need volunteers to pack 150,000 meals on Saturday, October 17.

Volunteer opportunities in our community this week 9/4/15

Volunteer coaches needed for basketball, volleyball and cheerleading. Volunteers are needed to walk with consumers once or twice a month and have coffee or lunch. Other volunteer needs include parenting workshop facilitator, office skills, event assistance and a state park environmental project.

Virginia State Parks line up volunteer opportunities for Volunteer Month

All 36 Virginia State Parks will offer volunteer opportunities throughout September. For example, nearby Leesylvania in Woodbridge, Sky Meadows in Delaplane and Shenandoah River in Bentonville are recruiting volunteers to collect acorns and other native tree seeds.

Freedom Museum hosts 3rd annual Hanger Dance Oct. 10 in Manassas

The Freedom Museum, a 501, c, (3) organization, will hold its 3rd Annual 1940’s style Hanger Dinner and Dance on Oct. 10, on the grounds of the Manassas Airport. The evening starts at 6:30 PM and ends at 11:00 PM.

Manassas National Battlefield Park will host a series of special programs marking the 153rd anniversary of the Second Battle of Manassas, beginning on the evening of Friday, Aug. 28, and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 30. The public is invited to participate in these events and programs, which will be held at various locations throughout the park.

Hylton Center to host “Midtown Men,” rousing quartet with music from Jersey Boys on Sept. 19

The Midtown Men, four talented showmen from the original cast of Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical, “Jersey Boys,” will appear at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. The quartet shared the Broadway stage for more than 1000 performances. Now locals "can see their energetic choreography, hear their impeccable harmonies and experience their legendary chemistry in this celebration of the music that defined a decade," according to a Hylton news release.
