The House of Mercy is sponsoring the fifth annual Campaign to End Hunger, a project which will need volunteers to pack 150,000 meals on Saturday, October 17.

Volunteer coaches needed for basketball, volleyball and cheerleading. Volunteers are needed to walk with consumers once or twice a month and have coffee or lunch. Other volunteer needs include parenting workshop facilitator, office skills, event assistance and a state park environmental project.
All 36 Virginia State Parks will offer volunteer opportunities throughout September. For example, nearby Leesylvania in Woodbridge, Sky Meadows in Delaplane and Shenandoah River in Bentonville are recruiting volunteers to collect acorns and other native tree seeds.
The Freedom Museum, a 501, c, (3) organization, will hold its 3rd Annual 1940’s style Hanger Dinner and Dance on Oct. 10, on the grounds of the Manassas Airport. The evening starts at 6:30 PM and ends at 11:00 PM.
“Tree Beginnings – Getting Young Trees Off to a Good Start” program is part of the Fauquier Master Gardeners’ Twilight Tuesdays program, a series of community programs on various gardening and horticultural topics taught by horticultural experts and Master Gardeners. The program is free and open to the public.
In the Company of Laureates will bring together more than 20 current and past Poets Laureate from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia to celebrate American poetry at the Hylton Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to teach basic email and web searching skills, serve as an office assistant, processing families, stocking shelves, accepting food donations and preparing food packages weekdays and Saturday mornings at SERVE and to be trained to serve as a volunteer literacy tutor for adults.

Weichert, Realtors Manassas office at 7900 Sudley Road, has joined forces with Transitional Housing BARN, Inc., of Bristow during August to collect food and household items to assist local at-risk families.
Manassas National Battlefield Park will host a series of special programs marking the 153rd anniversary of the Second Battle of Manassas, beginning on the evening of Friday, Aug. 28, and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 30. The public is invited to participate in these events and programs, which will be held at various locations throughout the park.

The Midtown Men, four talented showmen from the original cast of Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical, “Jersey Boys,” will appear at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas for the first time on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. The quartet shared the Broadway stage for more than 1000 performances. Now locals "can see their energetic choreography, hear their impeccable harmonies and experience their legendary chemistry in this celebration of the music that defined a decade," according to a Hylton news release.
