Power line crews will compete in equipment operator’s and lineman’s rodeo June 3-4

The skills and equipment of crews who work to safely restore power following an outage will be on display Friday and Saturday, June 3-4 at the 14th Annual Terex® Gaff-n-Go Equipment Operator’s & Lineman’s Rodeo. Kyle Sarvis of Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative, (NOVEC) top apprentice at the 2015 rodeo, will defend his title June 4. The rodeo is free and open to the public.

Va. governor extends validity of expiring driver’s licenses affected by IT snafu

Governor Terry McAuliffe this week took executive action to give Virginians affected by a weekend computer disruption additional time to renew driver’s licenses scheduled to expire during the service interruption. Action covers licenses that expire May 21 through May 22, giving drivers until May 28 to renew.

Fifteen Senators urge Congress to stop sitting on leases for VA outpatient clinics

U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) led a bipartisan group of 15 Senators May 24 in urging the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to authorize leases for 18 major medical facilities across 12 states that have been awaiting congressional authorization for over a year. Congress has not authorized any VA major medical facility leases through regular processes since 2012, hampering the ability of the V-A to provide much-needed health care and services to veterans around the country.
