For 70 years Francis Cannon VFW Post 7589 has been serving the needs of the veterans and the community. To celebrate the occasion of its 70th anniversary, the post conducted a special commemorative event on June 4 at its Manassas post on Centreville Rd., next to the Manassas firehouse.

Great American Campout is an opportunity for novice campers to get expert assistance at a campout or by attending outdoor skills workshops, including programs on campfire building, animal identification, basic wilderness survival and more.

SummerFest 2016 at Tackett's Mill Center in Lake Ridge will overflow from 4 to 8 p.m. with artists, authors and performers of all kinds, including the Manassas Ballet, and the Prince William Chorale. A new Poet Laureate for Prince William County will be crowned at 6:45 p.m.

Share a Brew and Fight Cancer Too, a June 3 fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Cancer Research Center, raised several hundred dollars, according to a news release from Manassas City Councilman Ian Lovejoy, one of the event’s organizers.

Ron DeFreitas of Woodbridge, a member of Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative, has received the 2016 Good Samaritan Award from the electric cooperatives of Virginia, Maryland and Delaware (VMDAEC), for his work in establishing the Reel American Heroes Foundation (RAHF), which provides resources and equipment that allow wounded and disabled veterans to enjoy fishing.
The Virginia Film Office will host a free screening of the award-winning HBO documentary The Loving Story on Sunday, June 12 at 4:30 pm at the Byrd Theatre on Cary Street in Richmond. The screening lands on the day chosen by activist groups across the nation to honor the couple that paved the way for marriage equality.
Caliber Collision urges the community to drop off food items or cash donations during its food drive from now through Friday June 24. Food collection bins have been set up at each of the four centers in the Prince William County: Dumfries, Woodbridge, Manassas and Gainesville.
