Residents are urged to take advantage of the Virginia "sales tax holiday" May 25-31 to get stocked up with all the supplies they may need to weather a hurricane. The season for hurricanes coming off the Atlantic starts June.
Roadside mowing will be ongoing for about the next 4-5 months and the Virginia Department of Transportation asks the motoring public to please drive slowly and be especially alert in areas where the mowing crews are at work. Most roads will get up to three cycles of mowing over the spring-summer-fall, according to a VDOT news release.

Virginians can save money and get ready for hurricane/flooding season during the Commonwealth’s tax-free shopping week set for May 25-31, according to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.
The National Park Service has announced it will begin issuing annual passes to active duty military personnel and their dependents at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 to show appreciation for those who serve in the U.S. military. In Prince William County VA military personnel may obtain the passes at Prince William Forest Park near Quantico and Manassas National Battlefield Park.

Residents of the city of Manassas VA have reported larcenies from vehicles in 106 calls for service from the City of Manassas Police Department between Dec. 1, 2011 and May 14, 2012, according to a report from the city's crime prevention analyst.
