Gainesville Republicans to pick Gainesville Supervisor nominee Jan. 2 instead of Jan. 4

After the Prince William Circuit Court issued the writ of election on Dec. 27 for Gainesville District Supervisor, Prince William Republican Chairman Denny Daugherty has moved the mass meeting date to Jan. 2 at Park Valley Church to meet the state's five-day deadline (from writ day) for naming the GOP's nominee. Previously the mass meeting was set for Jan.4 at Battlefield High School.

Va. State vet okays entry permit for S. Claus and nine reindeer

Dr. Charlie Broaddus, State Veterinarian with Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), has issued a permit to Nicolas “Santa” Claus, of the North Pole, to bring his herd of “eight tiny reindeer” and one additional rare, red-nosed reindeer into Virginia on the evening of Dec. 24.

Fatal crash on Sudley Road near Manassas Mall

The investigation revealed the driver of a 2014 Honda Civic was traveling at a high rate of speed east on Sudley Rd approaching Rixlew Ln when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a curb. The vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest in the parking lot of a local business.

VDOT issues overview of road conditions expected over Christmas holiday

Crews across the district will begin pretreating roads overnight Tuesday through overnight Wednesday and will begin deploying trucks early Thursday morning to treat roads as needed. VDOT asks motorists to please monitor forecasts closely as forecasts can improve or worsen quickly. The National Weather Service forecast shows winter weather will impact the region from overnight Wednesday through Friday. The forecast shows the potential for periods of freezing rain and sleet, as well as below-freezing temperatures, heavy rain, and high winds. 

Republicans set Jan. 4 mass meeting to nominate candidate for Gainesville Supervisor

The mass meeting is planned to be held on January 4, 2023, at Battlefield High School and will be open to any registered voter residing in the Gainesville district who promises to support the election of the candidate nominated.

Dec. 20 fire displaces eight from home in Sudley

Prince William County fire and rescue units were dispatched to the 10300 block of Lomond Drive (Sudley) at 1:22 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022 for a report of a single-family dwelling on fire. Crews arrived with fire showing and all occupants safely out of the home, according to Matt Smolsky, assistant fire chief.
